Screen Door in Portland, Oregon Southern food with locavore bent: local organic sides every single day, and you can get a plate of them. Or you can get all your favorite comfort foods, or any combination. I would eat here every day if I could.

My favorite restaurant is Maguires at North Dallas Tollway and Trinity Mills in Dallas,Tx. The pork chop is so thick it would feed 2 people. I haven’t tried the steaks yet, but love the Maguires salad with it’s own Maguire dressing. greens, granny apple slices, glazed pecans and can be ordered with or without chicken. The lava cake is to die for, and the cosmo w/Grey Goose is the best I’ve ever had. Wonderful service and lovely ambience.

Man, that’s hard because I have many, for different types of food. There is Thai Spice in Irvine, California (on Jeffrey Rd). The owner’s wife (formally trained as a chef in Bangkok) makes some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had! I lived in Bangkok for 3-1/2 yrs, so authenticity is important. The owner himself is somewhat of a sommelier, and he’s got some of the best South African wines to pair with his restaurant’s fare. Just outstanding!
I like Chuy’s in Austin, TX for some of the best & freshest tex-mex you’ll ever taste. It’s almost impossible to get a table there anymore, so I guess I’m not in the minority with my estimation of Chuy’s quality! Their hatch green chili chicken enchiladas are to die for!
For barbecue, just over the State Line from Kansas City, Missouri, in Wyandotte County, Kansas is one of the best: Oklahoma Joe’s!
For nuveau chinese/asian cuisine, I love Blue Koi on 39th Street in KCMO, mainly because they serve gluten-free dishes that even I can eat!
For one of my favorite delicacies, ice cream, we have Sylas & Maddy’s, or Murray’s in Westport. YUMMY!!

Providence Oyster Bar in Providence, RI! I have been here a handful of times, every time I have come here the food is beyond amazing. My philosophy has always been, if you are going to spend money on food, make sure its worth your while, and it IS! There are a ton of great restaurants within 1 or 2 blocks of this place, but it’s always the first place I’ll take someone whose never been to Federal Hill. Make reservations, bring some good company and enjoy the atmosphere. 🙂
