Did I make up words as a kid? Oh, I was an only child so I had a very active imagination going on in my head. I made up whole worlds in which to travel and had great adventures in – sorry that those friends in my head are no longer with me – the price of growing older.

I grew up in Indiana, where most words were mispronounced. So, my vocabulary today contains numerous ‘made up’ words…..seemeant (cement)….gout (get out). I turned into a speech and language pathologist…hilarious!

I did not make up words when I was a kid maybe because I was already fascinated by words that already existed. For example, I was very surprised to learn that surprise was not spelled with a “z”.

Well, I don’t recall that I made-up words as a kid. However, as an adult I definitely have. “Sweat baby” from that dance tune all those years ago became “sweba” and stuck. There are other examples, but I can’t think of any just now.

Not that I recall, but I made up words in grad school when I had shingles, to describe the weird sensations that came with having an optic nerve infected with a virus.

If you can noun it, I can verb it. Always could.
