I would make it like Life meets Trivial Pursuit. They’d get further in “Life” with more answers correct about LGBT history.

Well, first of all, I wouldn’t make it a board game. They’re too large. I’d make it a card /trivia game, portable, possible to play in a car or on a pool deck.
Among the things I’d include are old terms, like kiki, sections on authors, actors and politicians, and I’d make sure we had positive and negative examples from all over (I know more about NA than other parts of the world, but I don’t know what your vision covers for this, area/time period.) My point is, it’s easy for people to think P-town and the Castro were the center of all good, but where would we be without the Lincoln Legion of Lesbians?

make it interactive and immersive. create a board filled with quests that send the kids venturing away from the board to discover the history > each completed quest then moves you fwd or changes your level (depending on the design). the interactivity should incorporate online videos, podcasts, text messages and real world adventures. by making the history live it’ll be more exciting for the kids and they’ll walk away with a deeper understanding. also, humor might be a nice touch. 😉

I’d make it a DS game that would play only on PINK DSs’. LOTHARIA Cart, that’s what I’d call it! Lotharia would chase down Sushi a cute little preHERstoric dino. After flipping her she’d head over the cliff and chase down Daisy and Peach…hooo hooooo!
