K8T Asks: What is your most embarrassing re-gifting story?
Kate wants to hear from you! The next question of the week, straight from Kate, is: “What is your most embarrassing re-gifting story? I once received a thank you note from a friend for a book I had given her for her birthday. It went like this: ‘Kate, thanks for the book. I really enjoyed it, but I especially enjoyed the inscription to you from the author. That was nice.'”

OK, it’s not quite a regifting story, but it’s pretty interesting anyway. I had a friend who I’d had a falling out with and decided to get rid of the artwork she did for me. I took a long time to make this decision (years, actually) because I didn’t want to hurt her feelings and never wanted her to find out I’d given her art away. So finally, I took it to the local Goodwill. A week later, I was in there and they’d put the art up on the wall in a display. Oh, my. This ex-friend lives in the ‘hood and I’m sure she saw it.

Frankly I think her response to the book was a compliment. Having your name inside makes it more personal. After all you are a “celebrity!”
