Hi Kate,
My husband and I love Wilbur Hot Springs in Calousa County, CA. It is a very remote fully developed Hot Springs with massage. Many gays and lesbians go there. The place is clothes optional and hosts guest chef weekends, where you do not have to cook. If you go at other times, you are given your own frig and cook in a commercial kitchen. It is a beautiful place.

harbin hot springs in lake county, ca. it’s possible to go for the day, though i love to go for several days. usually i camp, though this is the rainy season (which may or may not matter). last time, my friend convinced me to get a room, which was great. more expensive but still awesome.
i also love orr hot springs, on the road between willits and mendocino, in the redwoods. much smaller than harbin. easy daytrip if you’re staying near mendocino/albion on the coast.
both have kitchens–take your own food, cook…
never been to wilbur…friends love it.
in san francisco, i also love osento, a women’s bathhouse on valencia st in the mission. not fancy at all.
i moved back east in 2000…on my two trips to california since then, i went to harbin twice, and orr and osento once or twice each. try to make it part of every trip.

Only spa I’ve ever been to is Glen Ivy Hot Springs & Spa in SoCal, it’s east of Laguna Beach by about 45 minutes, nestled in the Pacific ridge foothills. I believe it’s only a day spa, no kids under 16 allowed. Fantastically healthful food, in-door & out-door facilities for everything from facials to massages. Outside they have more than 10 pools (fresh, cold, warm, salt) plus sulfur hot spring tubs to cure what ails ya. Everyone there smiles, customers & spa associates alike. What a great job it must be to work there!

Indian Springs, Calistoga CA. Volcanic mud baths, mineral baths, spring feed pool, no pretensions.

The Chrysalis Spa is the best anywhere. The massage therapists are experienced in a variety of types of massage therapy including stone massages (not stoned), lomi lomi, Thai, water and others. Here’s their menu: http://www.thechrysalisinn.com/massages.php. It’s right on the Puget Sound just 90 miles from Seattle, where I hope you will do another show soon. Come on up. I am an ardent fan of both you and the Chrysalis.

Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe, New Mex. It is the absolute best spa around. We travel from the east coast at least once a year. Going next month. Try it — you’ll love it, Kate!

I vote for Harbin Hot Springs, although my personal experience at 10,000 Waves in Santa Fe was excellent. And what’s not to like about Santa Fe? http://www.harbin.org/massage.htm

The Inn at Carneros [http://www.thecarnerosinn.com/thecarnerosinn/] (between Napa & Sonoma)…no words to explain the feeling of calm, peace & bliss that comes with it…not to mention 5 star food, wine, accomodations and service. The best pink bubbly, cheese plate and view is right across the street at Domaine Carneros. Rooms are individual cottages with fireplace, outdoor showers that are heavenly (and can look out at the rolling hills) & outdoor living areas…some with a soaking tub. Starting the morning feeding the horses that adjoin the property, being pampered in the spa, and ending the day with a glass of pink bubbly in outdoor hot tub under the stars after a full day of wine tasting, Bistro Jeauty and the Oakville Grocer…it doesn’t get better. We are available to be fun loving tour guides whenever you’d like to go.

Ten Thousand Waves is great, but if you don’t want to be in a chichi crowd, Joyful Journey Hot Springs in middle-of-nowhere, Colorado is the best. It’s the lithium in the water, the quiet, and the view of the Great Sand Dunes. Of course, quiet makes some city people nuts, so think it over.

For the nicest smallest outdoor natural hot spring in New Mexico, check out the Giggling Springs in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. Ojo Caliente is great too but if you want a less commerical experience in a beautiful small mountain town, this is an exceptional experience! Visit http://www.JemezSprings.org and http://www.GigglingSprings.com. Lesbian owned and operated.
