Alice B. Toklas would bring great desserts. Gertrude Stein would be imperious, clever and, at times, insufferable. She and Kate Millet would get into quite a discussion about words. Natalie Barney and friends would arrive en costume! Vita Sackville West and Violet Trefusis would rock the house while hermitted horizontal in an upstairs boudoir. Eleanor Roosevelt would arrive at the side door with her gal pals in tow. Ameila Earhart would buzz the roof top. Billie Jean and Martina would lead the entire entourage for a sunset stroll (those literary types don’t move too fast) leaving Blanche Weisen Cook behind to snoop for love letters. And Lillian Faderman would record it all, writing a most exquisite commentary for posterity.
