I just had a brief, four hour love affair with New Smyrna Beach, FL during a nauseatingly romantic walk on the beach with my better half, followed by dashing through the kind of rain that only happens during musical montages in movies, and ending with our having burgers so obscenely good they clearly must be 85% Soylent Green patties.
(The love affair ended after taking a good look at the windows of several real estate agencies all advertising short sale and pre-forclosure condo deals…)

We were both born in this small town but didn’t meet until 45 years later. Obviously to us it is the best little love town ever…!

Oberlin, Ohio
mostly progressive (though we still have to struggle against some right wingers); can walk/bike almost anywhere; can hear young people arguing about politics and music; in the heart of the beast ( Ohio went for Hilary in the primary and Obama in the general) as a major swing state; Oberlin has one of the few buildings on the planet that gives off energy rather than using it– town/college working to be carbon neutral in xx years; lots of reading and writing groups (including women’s groups); 29 % of the city lives below the poverty line and we struggle with economic and racial discrimination and related contradictions; a Quaker retirement community (Kendall at Ithaca) gives a prominent, multi-generation flavor to the town; etc etc etc
