NCLR is not going to get ONE MORE PENNY from me, because they represent more men–that’s right, MEN–than Lesbians. They are all about “transgender” rights, which have nothing at all to do with Lesbians. Call me Crazy, you won’t be the first, but NCLR should be called NCTR, and stop using Lesbians’ hard-earned money to further an ANTI-FEMINIST AGENDA.
LizC – According to the Task Force, “Of the estimated 1.6 million homeless American youth, between 20 and 40 percent identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT).”
The statistic is old, 1999, but could be much worse now with the rotten economy. (Or better give we’ve made strides in acceptance.)
As for NCLR, you don’t think the cases they win for men will benefit women? If we L’s can’t support the G’s and the T’s in LGBT, then we can’t expect help from them when the rabid right wing comes after us–and they are coming. (What bothers me is how much of NCLR’s efforts go toward representing women against women in custody cases. Grow up, girls!)
Thanks for the link Elaine. If I’m reading the article correctly, 1.7 million teens experienced homelessness at some point in 1999, of which 20% were gay. That’s why the figure of 1.6 million lgbt homeless is hard for me to get my head around. Then, the written figure on the screen was missing a zero and I wondered if the figure was actually 160,000.

So as long as we can all agree to ghetto-ize the B’s, we’re cool then?
